Clifford Boro Pathbreaker Grant
The Clifford Boro Pathbreaker Grant is an essay-based scholarship program created to encourage students who have chosen unconventional paths. Each year, one student will receive a $1,000 scholarship to help fund their education. Below you’ll find the essay prompt, eligibility criteria, application process, and key dates for this scholarship.
How to Apply
Applying for the Pathbreaker Grant is straightforward. Just follow these steps to share your story with us:
Write Your Essay
Craft a 500–700 word essay responding to the prompt. Be honest and true to yourself – tell us how you've been a "pathbreaker" in life. Remember, the essay should be written in your own words and reflect your personal experiences (please do not use AI tools to generate your content). We recommend writing your essay in a separate document and saving it as a PDF file for submission.
Fill Out the Application Form
Visit our online application form (available on this website) and enter the required details. You'll provide basic information such as your name, email, phone number, college/university, and degree program.
Upload Your Essay
Attach your 500–700 word essay as a PDF file via the form. Ensure that your file is correctly uploaded before submitting. (Tip: double-check that your name and a title are on the essay PDF.)
Submit by the Deadline
Submit the application form, including your essay upload, no later than January 31, 2026. Once you've submitted, you should receive a confirmation email. If you do not receive confirmation within 24 hours, please reach out to us to verify that we received your application.
That's it!
There is no application fee and no transcript or recommendation letters required. We've kept the process simple because we care most about your story. Take your time to write a meaningful essay, and make sure to submit on time. Good luck!
Eligibility Criteria
To ensure the Pathbreaker Grant reaches the right students, please confirm that you meet all eligibility requirements:
- Enrollment: You must be currently enrolled in an accredited U.S. college or university (undergraduate or graduate program). All majors and fields of study are welcome – we encourage diversity of backgrounds.
- Student Status: Open to all U.S. college students who are pursuing a degree at an accredited institution (you do not need to be a U.S. citizen; international students studying in the U.S. are eligible).
- Personal Essay: You must submit an original essay of 500–700 words addressing the prompt above. The essay must be your own work – we want genuine personal stories (no ghostwriting or AI assistance).
- One Entry Per Year: Each student may submit only one application/essay for this scholarship per award cycle.
If you meet the above criteria, we invite you to apply!
Essay Requirement
- Essay Prompt : What makes your life unconventional — and why did you choose that path? Tell us about a time you defied expectations, challenged norms, or chose purpose over approval. How are you living a life that’s truly your own?
Please note: Your response should be 500–700 words in length and written by you (no AI-written content). We want to hear your authentic story and voice.
Selection Process & Award
After the deadline, all applications will be carefully reviewed by Cliff Boro and the grant committee. We read every essay, looking for a student who exemplifies the “pathbreaker” spirit. In choosing the winner, we consider several factors:
- Authenticity and Heart: Is your story genuine, personal, and reflective of you? We value honest storytelling that gives us a real sense of who you are and why your path is unique.
- Relevance to the Prompt: We’re looking for essays that clearly address the question. Share specific examples of how you defied expectations or chose a purpose-driven path over fitting in.
- Creativity and Insight: We appreciate original thinkers. Essays that offer thoughtful insights, show creativity in thought or approach, and inspire us will stand out.
- Clarity and Impact: While this isn’t an English contest, good writing matters. A well-structured, clear, and compelling narrative will make your story more impactful. Make sure your essay stays within 500–700 words and is proofread for typos or errors.
The selected recipient will be notified via the contact information provided in the application. We will announce the winner on our website on February 02, 2026. The winner will receive a one-time $1,000 scholarship award. We can disburse the funds as a check or direct deposit, and the money can be used toward tuition, books, or any education-related expenses – it’s meant to support your journey in whatever way is most helpful. We may also feature the winner’s first name and story on our site or press release (with permission), to celebrate their achievement and inspire others.
If you have any questions during the process, feel free to reach out to us. We are excited to hear your story – thank you for your interest in the Clifford Boro Pathbreaker Grant, and good luck to all applicants!
